Leica Camera published a new banner on their Facebook page for their Mini M campaign with the text “Meet the new Leica family member on the 11th of June” and “Heard the rumors? Get the truth: Leica Stores – June 11th.” This indicates that there will be only one camera announced on June 11th and the first units will be in stock/on display in Leica stores on that date. As I already mentioned, the new camera will be made in Germany.

Nikon released firmware update 1.2 for the Coolpix P7700 compact camera (currently listed for $389). The only modification in this release is:

“When shooting with shooting mode set to M (manual) with Flash, and the ISO sensitivity set to Auto, ISO 80-200, ISO 80-400, or ISO 80-800, ISO sensitivity was sometimes not locked at ISO 80 and a different ISO sensitivity was sometimes applied.  This issue has been resolved.”

Samyang has scheduled to release several new lenses in 2014. The first one will be a 16mm f/2 ED AS UMC CS for APS-C cameras. A second APS-C lens is also rumored to be announced this summer. During the 2012 Photokina show the company introduced a 10mm f/2.8 ED AS UMC CS lens for APS-C cameras that has not been released yet. A new Samyang 50mm f/1.2 lens is also on the roadmap for 2014.

…. and they’re pretty good.
DXO Mark has tested the Canon EF 500 f/4L IS II and the EF 600 f/4L IS II and found them to be good. :) The 600 appears to be a tad bit sharper than the 500, which is a reversal from the previous version of the lenses. As has always been, these two lenses are not as sharp as the EF 300 f/2.8L IS II or the EF 400 f/2.8L IS II.
